On the Canadian side, you could go back to the package freighters being built in Collingwood and the first seaway sized vessels built at Port Weller in the 1960s as the early forerunners of the all aft design built on the Great Lakes. I have always like the Bayship designs(Buffalo, etc) more than the "blocky" superstructures of the river class ships from Lorain.
