It's a lot like living in a bomb shelter with a view. You have everything you need there with you, but you can't really go anywhere. Things like running down to the store to buy a new tube of toothpaste or going out to see a movie become very rare, planned events. When you can get off the ship in port, you usually only have a few hours depending on the ship and the port. Although in recent years most ships now have satellite television and even internet connections, you still are usually just out of touch with the 'real world'.
