The conveyor tunnel also gets cleaned and hosed down thoroughly so that the belt isn't carrying contaminants off along with the next cargo that's unloaded. Depending on the kind of cargo dust that's in it, that water is either pumped out in a deep area of a lake or contained and pumped off at a port. Also, depending on where/how the conveyor belt is set (high, low, etc.)and the kind of unloading system, if it's running and someone falls onto it through a gate in the bottom of the hold, he won't end up on the dockside cargo pile in one piece--or with skin still on him! Most of him would likely be stuck in the system somewhere. That's why you say lots of prayers if you have someone working on a lake boat! Bad things can happen fast and very unexpectedly, even though crewmen know the dangers and are trying to stay focused and safe!
