When I was on the Taylor and we were always hauling different cargos. When you finished unloading stone for example, you would run up the side of the holds hanging onto chains. Then you would kick out the stone that was stuck in behind the girders and you would works your way down the hold going from chain to chain. They called it running chains. One of the guys would be holding the kill switch for the belt so that if anyone ever lost their grip on the chain they could shut down the belt so you wouldn't end up on the pile on shore. After we were done with that we would bring the hose in and hose out the holds so that everything was clean for the next load. It was quite a workout!
