The short version, is no - no - no and no. Any ship of any age carries salt. No one is dedicated to it either, though some carry it more often than others it certainly isn't exclusive. There is nothing special about the construction, most are painted though the paint is of varying qualities and does deteriorate. I don't know about any rates, companies hold that info pretty close to the chest, I don't think it commands a better rate than any other cargo.
