My Uncle Lloyd Horton drowned after abandoning a tug boat along with the rest of the crew. Based on the fragmented stories from relatives I think in the 40's or 50's The Tug was operating late and lost its steering after hitting ice, the crew abandoned her and jumped onto a large ice flow while Uncle Lloyd shut down the engine, he tried to swim from the tug to the ice but went under water and was not found until the following spring. No person in my family could recall the name of the vessel nor were they sure where the accident occured. I have tried to find some record containing his name but to no avail, I wondered if there were a searchable database that may mention a stricken Tug boat who's crew left for nearby ice packs and suffered loss of life.
