Bart Stupak, D-Menominee, hailed the U.S. Senate’s passage of the conference report to the Water Resources Development Act. Senate passage of the measure is the final step before the legislation is sent to the president for signature. The legislation includes a provision ordering the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move forward to build a new super lock in Sault Ste. Marie. In the House, Stupak worked with the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., to see the Soo Lock language included in the measure. “This legislation tells the U.S. Army Corps that there will be no more delays or excuses.
