Chris is exactly correct. I have no idea why they mentioned us in that article because there is no need for that tug here. I guarantee the lake superior will not be going back into service. She's direct reversing (and I mean a true bell boat, no ph controls) with an Enterprise diesel missing key components. compressors, generators, etc. The tug is way too big for harbor work, it can barely turn around in the slip. You guys are all correct. she'd never work for ship-handling. Those things were made for ocean crossing. Good lake tugs but the thing is something like 400-Gross Tons and would need to be ABS inspected. To get it up to code for operation again you're looking at $150,000 to $200,000. It's hull seems okay but the thing is a dinasour. the quotes in the article came from someone at the DECC who apparently was only going off of rumors. Bummer to get people excited, but no lake superior will just end up sitting around deteriorating like the rest of them. As for the seneca, just as Chris said, I already replaced the seneca with the anaa marie long before we'd lost her in that storm. The seneca was getting weak and needed a lot of TLC.
