The superheater is located up in the uptake stack above the boilers and furnaces, and the steam is passed through these pipes to "superheat" it up to some 900 degrees which we used on the SS Tom M. Girdler which I sailed on in the early 60's. This makes the steam totally transparent and "super HOT"
