According to the news release part of the price includes the cost of refurbishing the aft ends of both vessels. They will each be about 30 years old with a lot of saltwater service under their belts when they're renovated. There's also a 25% import duty on each of the foreign-built forebodies. Despite that it must still be worth it. There are a number of possible factors that would make local Canadian yards less attractive for the contract, the simplest being that they will already be busy in 2009/2010. Anyone know if the 'local' yards have any possible major work in the coming years?
