The *Morton Salt No. 1* 275024, a covered barge, was built 1957 as hull no. 238 by the Calumet SY&DDCo at South Chicago for Morton Salt Co., Chicago. 194.4 x 35 x 10.4; 714 gt/nt; 1500 ton capacity. She operated between the Morton facilities at Detroit and Ojibway, Ontario, towed, I think, by Becker tugs. She was sold to Toledo contractor Wohlleb-Socie Co. in the '70s and renamed *Socie No. 1.* She left American documentation on 31 May 2007, entering Marshall Islands registry, probably for Caribbean use. I think the *Detroit Marine Historian* has published a photo or two of her over the years. Morton operated four other barges on the Gulf and Intracoastal Waterway in the '60s, too.
