marblehead, Ohio -- The Coast Guard had to get a man to emergency services after his hand was severed while working on a ship on Lake Erie. The crewman from the Laker Adam E. Cornelius was injured while he was working the lines that tied the laker to the pier. His hand was caught between the cleat on the pier and the line, officials said. The accident happened at 10:20 p.m. at the stone dock near Marblehead. Coast Guard Station Marblehead launched a 25-foot response boat to assist the injured crewman and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services.
