I have two black and white photographs of lake freighters with cranes mounted on their decks. I assume this is a precursor to the self unloaders we see today. Can anyone shed more information on this for me? When was this done? How common was it? I am getting the photos framed so I can't tell you the names of the boats until I get them back. Thanks!
