I'd have to agree with Tom. The Atkinson is a basket case, no bridge gear and one suspect engine already. The Viking could be made operational, but there you have an 80 year old hull with 40 year old engines, not exactly what someone would be looking for if they have an eye on prolonged operations. The Spartan would need a fair amount of work also, needing new engines as an enterprise such as this wouldn't want to go with steam technology. But they want a ship that will hold up to 120 trailers (the article is not really clear if the tractors would go on too-this may be a trailer-only operation, which means accomodations for drivers could be kept to a minimum. They would be looking a vessel with 2 deck for the trailers, and I would imagine something in the nature of both bow and stern doors for loading and unloading. When they do get a ship, will probably be a newer foreign built ferry.
