I suspect the Pigeon Lake/Pigeon River is not deep enough for lakes vessels and it would be cost prohibitive to build a dock, hopper and conveyor system to the power plant from Lake Michigan. Also, the coal burned at the power plant may be moved by rail at a decent price ... for instance, if the coal came from southern Illinios, direct rail transport is probably less expensive than rail to boat to hopper. Two coal trains a day is not bad. In our area, there are six per day.
