If you want to take pictures you will want to be on St. Joseph's Island. It is best to have a telephoto lens (200mm)and the morning is better as you don't have to shoot in to the sun. From Sault Ste. Marie take Hwy 17 east until the St. Joseph Island turn off. Follow the signs to Richards Landing. Continue through Richards Landing for about 5 miles when you get to the river just continue a short distance and park at the church. If you have a scanner it is about 30 minutes from the time the ship calls in at Mud Lake until it makes the turn at Johnson's Point. If you are unfamiliar with the area, you will only see upbounders at the location.
