The Edmund Fitzgerald and Arthur B. Homer both had a solid bulwark above the pilot house visor. The Edward L. Ryerson has a similar bulwark, but no visor. Was this evolution a functional change or styling. Did the visor become unnecessary when radar and other technologies allowed the captain to move out of the open center window?
