How would this be any different then where we were in the late seventies? The ship's from those days that were converted to self unloaders are still with us, and all the others are gone, save the ryerson and sherwin. The cost is just too great to operate that gear. You want to know why the ryerson was placed back in service? I suspect that that question is answered by another: what was the alternative? There just wern't any US ships available to do the job, with the LAT the Joseph H. Thompson Jr. both being repowered, and buckeye in conversion. With everything back in operation, I think that the ryerson will either convert to self unloader (not likely) or lay-up permanently next year.
