She never was a coal bunkering boat. Most likely, what you saw was the old *Koalkraft,* built at South Chicago in 1913. She lasted until going out of documentation in the '70s, and was cut up at the Bigane Fueling slip just south of where KBCX is today. She was joined by the old Pickands-Mather bunkering boat *West Shore* in the '60s, and the *West Shore* met the same fate. The *West Shore* was more a "sea" boat, and travelled to Gary, Indiana Harbor, and Burns Harbor to bunker coal-fired vessels there, while the *Koalkraft* remained content to ply the calm but (then) putrid waters of the Grand Calumet.
