I think ASC is also trying to keep a one engine model fleet. That will make it easier to send engineers around the fleet with out needing to retrain. Think of engineers who work for Algoma Central. They may have to deal with Fairbanks-Morse, Pielstick, M.A.N, Sulzer, and B&W model engines in a single year. Every motor vessel built from the ground up for ASC has had a 20-645-E7 or E7B model GM-EMD diesel and a controlled pitch propeller. Even the Adam E. Corneilus which was built at Toledo by American Shipbuilding has a 20-645-E7B in her. Only the American Spirit which Hanna Mining/National steel built has a different model (Colt-Pielstick). The Fred R. White JR., Oglebay Norton, and Columbia Star all run the model 645 engine and that familiarity and their relatively young age were the attractions. As for the steamers I think they may have been an add-on to get the 3 EMD ships. Brian
