The engine room may be in excellent shape, but the internal parts of the engines have been neglected for a long time. On turbine ships we used to have to put the jacking gear in, so the turbine rotor shaft would not distort. The jacking gear would slowly turn the turbine, so the shaft would not set in one position and distort. If the shaft distorted, the turbine would have a lot of damage to it. In diesels or other recip. engines the pistons and rings would probably be set and engines would be in bad need for repair.
