Does anyone remember, back in summer of 1977 or 1978, what ship had to beach itself in a small bay at the mouth of the St. Mary's River just south of Frying Pan Island? She had hit some large rocks just north of DeTour Passage near Sweets Point and was taking on water. Instead of heading on out to Lake Huron and sinking, the captain beached it in that small bay so it wouldnt sink. They got temporary repairs and several tugs yanked it out of there. We watched it from the shore for several days. I think the whole town was out there. Was talking to a friend of ours this evening and I remembered about that. I THINK it was the Greene. So if there is anyone who remembers if it was the Greene or not, I would appreciate that. Thank You.
