I would imagine that if the ship is hogging it could effect the flow of water to the propeller or the angle of the propeller. It also would effect how well the hulls hydrodynamics would perform. All that could effect fuel consumption. The Canadian ships have the right idea with the sprinklers, when I was sailing and we had water on the deck for hogging us deckhands with the hoses got to be the sprinklers. Brian
