Watching the CSL Assiniboine through locks 3 & 4 on the welland canal Sunday, we noticed the deck being spayed with sprinklers on fire hoses the entire length of the ship. Having not seen this very often before, I was wondering why they do this? One answer I heard was to keep the deck plates cool to prevent them from cracking. Thanks in advance. Keith Norling
