The photos and video on the www.novatug.nl site are something--especially the ones of the tug in braking mode, acting as a sea-anchor to slow a ship down. The tug is heeled over, deck awash, as the ship drags it sideways. Tugs have had Voith-Schneider units and other kinds of fancy propulsion for many years, so I wonder why it took so long for the apparently simple carrousel towing bitt to be invented and developed.
