John, Guilty as charged, I'm Jay's son. He's doing well, retired about 5 or so years ago. Yes, my uncle had a passion for those old steamers, however, my dad spent his share of time on the oldies, but when he wrote for his licenses he always had diesel in addition to the steam, so ASC put him on the diesels. Funny thing...In my sailing 6.5 years I sailed on ships with my father, uncle, brother and two cousins. As you know Norm couldn't sail on Huron ships after he became Fleet Chief, when he wanted to go sail he'd go to some other company as a relief engineer for a week or two. I had been aboard the Detroit Edison for a couple of years and then my dad came aboard as 1st Eng, so a few months later he was looking for a vacation relief and none were available...the company said if you can find a relief you can take your vacation...next thing you know my uncle Norm is on the dock in S. Chicago as my dad's relief.
