I can only go on what I've seen at Medusa/Southdown/Cemex/St. Marys in Charlevoix - but it appears to be about the same in Alpena and elsewhere. The cement carriers have small round openings (sorry for lack of correct terminology) on their decks instead of hatches. Loading is done by inserting tubes from the silos into those - at no time is the powdered cement exposed to air, as coal or taconite is during the loading process. Other than that, it's about the same...the boat is shifted around until the cargo is evenly loaded.
