The Wind Class were very similar to the Mac, but had deeper draft and more fuel capacity. They were designed around the same time and borrowed from the LAke Michigan Car Ferries with their bow propellers and such. The Wind Class were Navy breakers built with 5 inch main guns and other anti-aircraft gun tubs for fleet service on the ocean (as built, the Mack had no guns). Some were transfered tot he Guard after the war and some were even brought to the lakes from time to time but proved difficult to manuver due to their deeper draft and even ended up bottoming out a time or two. -B in B
