I had lunch with one of the primary designers of the Mackinaw 30, and he did clearly state that the terms of accepting the boat included satisfactorally completing ice trials, and that if Mackinaw 30 didn't have the chance, the Mackinaw 83 very well could remain commissioned until the new boat proved herself in ice. So I wouldn't rule it out. CG hasn't dealt with this technology before and are most likely sure it will work, but it was a clear contract with MMarine, that she succesfully complete trials. Nothing is an absolute right now.
