Not sure about the cars-on-deck-boat but there was an old ship that was stripped, filled with debris and sunk there as fill-in to cut off the City Ship Canal from the Tift Basins. I dunno the name, but there's an aireal photo of the basins in the book Maritime Buffalo by Paul Redding. You can clearly see the ship under the water and there's a ramp leading out from the pier so trucks could dump inside it. The ship was left there and then filled in all around. It was at the junction of the Turning Basin and the City Ship Canal to the East of the property. This area is a slag filled depression along Furhman Blvd. now. I'm pretty sure the ship was an old wooden steamer. -B in B
