Saw a post earlier about the Callaway showing up in Marquette and someone asking about a GLF boat ever being there. I also find it interesting that Ive seen the Adam E. Cornelius and Buffalo within the last few days now up in Lake Superior, when most of the time you see their names at ports on the lower lakes. My question is this. Do the individual steel mills, for example, tend to stick with one vessel carrier and get ore from one particular port, or is it based on something different? I can understand the relationship between US Steel and the GLF, which is why you see many of those vessels showing up in Gary. I also believe that US Steel owns or has a stake in the Minntace mine in MN? This ore is destined for the DMIR dock? I know before its breakup, LTV owned the mining railroad that delivered pellets to Silver Bay, MN. And although I am not sure who owns the LS&I anymore (Cleveland Cliffs?), most, if not all of the taconite that went to the Marquette dock came from the Tilden mine. LS&I it seems serves that one almost exclusively, despite the former CNW, now CN (WC) being up there also. The Empire mine is right next to Tilden, and the former CNW, WC and now CN tend to get most of that business, which is destined for Escanaba. And the two most frequent visitors I see there (Escanaba) are the Block and the Sykes. Most of their trips seem to be to Indiana Harbor. I think the LS&I does get some business out of Empire also, but the bulk of it goes to CN/WC, Steve
