Thanks to helpful replies here, I was able to scout out some viewing areas along the Calumet river today. I covered the river from Lake Michigan to it's deep water end at Lake Calumet. I met the St Mary's Challenger at a bridge and was able to get some great photos of her wheel house, close up.She was headed out to the lake. I also got to see the Kay Barker at Carmeuse and the Algosoo at KCBX loading coal. There was a smaller laker on the south side of the river at Lake Calumet's terminals, but I couldn't get near it at all. I was greeted by guard shacks and MARSEC Warning level signs everywhere I went. I wish I would have gotten into this hobby before Sept 11, 2001.
