The Edward J. Berwind was launched July 12, 1924 at Great Lakes Engineering Works, Rouge River, MI. She was built for Franklin Steamship Co., had US reg. 224139, and dimensions of 612 loa x 62 x 32. The boat was powered by a 2300 ihp triple expansion steam engine with a rated service speed of 12 mph. Management of the Berwind transferred to Bethlehem Transportation in 1930. On June 11, 1936, the Berwind collided with the Aycliffe Hall on Lake Erie. The Canadian boat sank. In 1944, management of the Berwind transferred to Hanna. The Berwind was renamed Matthew Andrews in 1963. She was converted to oil fired during winter layup 1970-1971. In 1974, she was sold Canadian and renamed Blanche Hindman (Can reg 327382). She was sold again to Quebec & Ontario Transportation in 1978 and renamed Lac Ste. Anne in 1979. The Lac Ste. Anne was sold to Transport Desgagnes in 1984. She was towed to Port Colborne Marine Terminals in November, 1985 and scrrapped there over the winter of 1985-86.
