The Pittsburgh Steamship Company was formed in 1901 as part of the new U.S. Steel Corporation. For many decades the fleet flag was a red, white and blue swallowtail with a large white P in the field. In the 60s U.S. Steel merged its various divisions into one company. Over the years, the fleet became the Pittsburgh Steamship Division and, eventually, USS Great Lakes Fleet. During the changes of the 60s, the fleet adopted a houseflag that was light blue with the white USS-in-a-circle emblem in the center. Although this flag is depicted as a swallowtail in the cap badges, I've only seen it as a rectangular flag. Perhaps some old USS hands have seen a swallowtail version?
