When I used to watch the boats on the Detroit River, in the late 50s & early 60s, it seemed like they pushed a huge swell of water out in front of the bow and generated a large wave. Now it seems like the newer boats don't cause much of a disturbance when they pass. Has something in the newer hull designs changed the manner in which the hull displaces water?
