The AmShip footers as far as I know have 3 hold belts in their unloading systems, while (at least with he Burns Harbor) there is only one hold belt. The AmShip footers (including the Speer which resembles a BayShip footer) use 2 Colt Pielstick diesels. I know the Blough had 2 Pielsticks, and then 4 Caterpillar generators so I would assume that the footers are probably close to the same set up. The Burns Harbor and all the Bay Ship footers excluding the Gott have 645 model GM-EMD diesels, the Gott has 2 Enterprise diesels. Since the EMD's can be used to produce electricity they typically only have 2 Caterpillar generators. Both models have bow thrusters, and twin variable pitch propellers, but the Bay Ship building footers have stern thrusters as well. (Some AmShip footers may have stern thrusters now but I know the Interlake ships came with out them.) On the BayShip footers the loop belt and elevator are surrounded by the aft super structure while the same systems on the AmShip footers are forward of the stern cabins. The Gott and Speer could be their own little sub-class of ship but they were built at separate yards (and I think the Speer was actually partially built at two different yards. I have only worked on a BayShip footer but given the choice I think I would stick with them. No real reason just preference. Brian
