The CTC No. 1 is the 2nd of the Maritimer's to be named Steelton. She was built as the Frank Purnell and renamed Steelton in 1966. The original "Maritimer" Steelton was traded to Interlake Steamship in an 'even up' trade for their "Maritimer" Frank Purnell. The Purnell had recently had alot of cargo hold work to her tanktops (sides and bottom of cargo hold). On the flip side, the Steelton was in need of the same repairs. Interlake had decided that they wanted to convert the Purnell to a self unloader. When a conversion is done, the tank tops are all renewed/rebuilt, So Bethlehem, not wanting a self unloader, traded the Steelton (in need of tank tops and an ideal candidate for conversion) to Interlake for the Purnell which was basically an identical boat. All this happened over the winter of 1965-1966.
