The US Coast Guard is broadcasting a report of up to 20 people being stranded on an ice flow that broke off in the Western end of Lake Erie around 11:20 today. 1 person is reported in the water. Marblehead Ice Rescue is on the scene, as well as Toledo rescue operations. The US Coast Guard dispatched one of its choppers from the Selfridge Air National Guard Base to the scene. They passed Downtown Detroit at 11:52. The Coast Guard also sounds like it is getting ready to dispatch the Bristol Bay to the West Sister Island area to assist. The Bristol Bay is currently upbound after working on lighted buoy 2 down in the East Outer Channel.
A second Coast Guard chopper has been dispatched to the scene & was at Downtown Detroit at 12:24. The Bristol Bay was dispatched to the scene & was turned around & in the Livingstone Channel downbound at 1219. Her ETA for Det R Lt is 1239.
