I have a couple of questions regarding Mataafa. In the early years of Pittsburgh Steamship they painted the stacks one complete color (top to bottom), it was either all white or more likely silver (hard to tell from black and white pictures). Does anyone have any information on when this was changed to the now familiar black band added to the top of the stack? My second question is; Mataafa early in her career had a third mast in the middle of the spar deck, would anyone know when this was removed? I do know that from several pictures I've studied from her Nov. 28, 1905 wreck off the enterance to Duluth Harbor, I see she has the black band at the top of the stack and no middle mast, so it's obvious these changes were made prior to Nov 1905. I am posting this in hopes there are any "Mataafa experts" out there who might have any more detailed information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. ~John
