Am trying to find old relatives and heard that my grandmother's father was either a captain or an engineer on the Great Lakes. My grandmother was born on Harsen's Island in 1885 and remembered waving at him as he went by. Cannot find his name anywhere on ship sites. It was Hugh Torrance. Supposedly he brought a ship motor with him from Scotland and it is at the Henry Ford Museum. Am trying to check that out too. Another relative was in a tug towing a boat near the mouth of the St Clair River and was drowned. I found a tug called the Monarch that sunk in 1938 and 4 lives were lost but cannot find the names of those drowned anywhere. Even tried to look in newspapers because my grnadmother remembers him being found near Marysville or Marine City. His last name could have been McDougall or Torrance. Any suggestions as to where else I can look? Thanks.
