Michael. As I understand it iron ore processed into nuggets contains almost 95 percent iron, taconite pellets iron content is substantially lower. A boat load of nuggets would produce more iron at the mills than a boat load taconite. Blast furnace operations are very expensive to run compared to arc furnaces. I believe the only material mini-mills, which use arc furnaces, can melt is scrap metal at present. Nuggets at 95% iron content can most likely be used by mini-mills.
