The news page says Taconite sells for $40 and the nuggest should sell for $300. If my math is right, that's about $61.50 and $315 per ton of Iron content. That's quite a swing. I know nothing of the costs of a blast furnacs vs. arc furnaces at mini-mills but that's quite a difference, something on the order of increase cost of Iron to steelmakers of 500%. Is that something that they can handle? Are the costs of minimills THAT much lower to make up for that sort of thing? I'd be very interested in understanding this better and appreciate any and all contributions.
