Does anyone know what the terms were for trade-in tonnage during WW2? I know a lot of boats that would have been scrapped had it not been for the war effort were traded in on new tonnage and kept operable until the end of the war. Who operated these boats? What was the incentive given for the owners to trade in the older boats? Is this how the "Maritimers" came into being? How many boats were traded in? Did any of the boats traded in survive to serve in other capacities, or were all scrapped? Any other tidbits that would shed light on what was going on then? Thanks!
