Back in the late 50's and early 60's, Taconite Harbor was loading hot pellets. The mixture of heat, steam, and taconite dust made it seem like you were loading in the middle of a black snow storm. After the boat was loaded, wash down had to begin on top of the pilot house and on the boat deck. On the main deck, shovels were required to remove accumulated spillage. Clean up after loading at Two Harbors or Duluth was a picnic compared to Taconite Harbor cleanup!
