Taconite harbor has a bright future ahead as a loading dock, it will reopen in 2005 and may replace the DM&IR dock in Duluth and the BNSF Dock in Superior as a loading facility for both. Cleveland Cliffs is trying to get Federal funds and private funding to make the rail changes and build an on site storage facility also. They can then charge less per ton for pellets due to the fact that the dock makes the round trip from the lower lake mills closer per trip and that adds up to extra trips for vessels per season. Its also the best loading dock on the lakes. Its headed for a rebirth soon.
