OK...first off, if by lights you mean navigation aids and such, there are many just downtown on the lakefront. Navy Pier is the center of "tour" ship traffic. These are generally yachty type Sub T boats that carry only people. Every Wednesday and Saturday at 2130 hrs. there is a great fireworks show on the lakefront just south of Navy Pier...get a table at one of their eateries just in time for the show. As far as cargo carrying vessels, the port district begins 12 statute miles due south from Navy Pier in Calumet Harbor and extends along the southern end of the Lake for another 12-15 miles or so. You can drive down there if you want to follow Rte. 41 south until you see the Calumet River. (Lakeshore Drive becomes Rte 41 as you head south). The harbor area isn't exactly tourist friendly. It generally consists of private docks along the River. The 1st bridge you cross is 92nd Street. Head to 100th Street from there and head west a few blocks to the 100th St bridge. From this vantage point you can see KCBX dock. There is usually a laker in taking on high sulfur coal for points north. Hope this helps. If anything further, just post a message. tonyj
