I asked Austal Ships about there engines on the Spirit of Ontario, this is their reply, We have four main engines from the German manufacturer, MTU. They are a new model, MTU 20V 8000 M70's (vee configuration, 20 cylinders per engine, 8,200 kilowatt at 1150 RPM each). They each drive through a ZF 53000 gearbox and into four LIPS LJ120E steerable water jets. 800 pax and crew, 238 cars max, 10 coaches max and a working speed of 42 knots.
