You'll love it! Spent a week on the Walter J. McCarthy last fall. Crew was terrific (and very patient). Take a camera, lots of film (or memory) and document your trip well. I look back at the photos a lot as they bring back some very fond memories and make me realize how much I'd like to do it all again. Fall weather was wonderful and the ride smooth as silk (except for some vibration in the rivers and shallow areas). This time of year weather might be a bit less cooperative so be prepared. Food was excellent and VERY plentiful. If you get carried away do like our Captain did on our trip, do a brisk multiple lap walk around the deck to burn it off. Crew had it calculated down to how many laps were a mile, etc. The Locks are spectacular, the whole trip up the St. Mary's is an education and Lake Superior coming into Duluth with the North Shore as a backdrop is unforgettable. Have a great time!
