I have worked on GM EMD's, GM Clevelands, and Colt Pielsticks. I noticed that the Pielsticks needed more attention then the EMD's. (The Clevelands were just old!). I have noticed that the coast guard tends to use Caterpillers, and some repowering have gone CAT (Cuyahoga, ect). The Joyce L. Van Eckenvort is CAT powered, and the Dorthy Ann is EMD. They were built around the same time (with in a few years) and near each other. Is this a (Ford/Chevy like debate?). Do the Railroad engines (EMD, Alco) have any advantages? I know they tend to run off #2 and the Pielsticks use a blended #6. What are some of the basic advantages between EMD's, Pielsticks's, Alco's, and Cat's. Brian
