Anyone out there know the official dates of the change over for U.S. Seaman Documents from a Copeland Book to a Z Card # to a Social Security #? I believe the Z card started in the late 40's and SSN # was used starting around 1970. The book was neat because it had all of your ship history in stamped pages that was done by the Captains of each ship you sailed. But they were big and bulky and easily lost, thus the smaller wallet sized Z card.
